Fighting the boss Ghorn is completely up to you, as he is not a boss of the main quest line. In fact, he and his entire dungeon – The Scar Dungeon – can be skipped entirely if you wish. But as with most games, clearing his dungeon and slaying him results in some sweet loot drops. In our ever growing series of how to smack the bosses of Darksiders II in the mouth until they drop loot, we will now take a look at how to best give it to Ghorn.
After Completing the Side Quest “Shaman’s Craft” and Obtaining the Death Grip ability. Talk to Muria. She will explain to you that she tried to make a construct without using her soul and what she made instead was a monster. A creature called Ghorn. Ghorn lives in the Scar located in the Charred Pass. You will encounter him as soon as you enter the Scar and he will antagonize you throughout the entire dungeon. Ghorn is a Magma/Fire version of a Construct Commander. IGN
Ghorn is not too difficult to bring down if you are decent at using the single dodge and the two-dodge, and if you have not yet learned to dodge as second nature I suggest maybe practicing on non-boss enemies before doing this fight. This entire fight consists of dodging attacks and getting in damage when you can (as if this doesn’t apply to every boss, ever), so being a skilled dodger is paramount.
Dodging 101
The first stage of the fight with Ghorn is as basic at it comes in an action game: Dodge his attacks, smack him in-between. His attacks in the beginning are slow, predictable, and easy to dodge. Dodging here and counter attacking at every opportunity is the method of the stage right until you see him start to glow. Remember back to your first games and that enemy glowing = bad. (Typically: explosions) Retreat to a long range while Ghorn blows his load in a short range explosion that will land everywhere around him. While this particular blend of explosion doesn’t damage you too much, it still is something that is easy to dodge if you are watching for it.
A Second Lesson in Dodging
When Ghorn has been bashed down to around 80% of his health bar, he will have a new technique at his disposal. Ghorn will start to pound the ground resulting in lava rising from the ground and forming pools. These need to be dodged using the two-dodge technique, but the dodges need to be spaced out. Dodging the second time too quickly will result in the final flip stalling just long enough to be caught in lava. Just two-dodge in a circle around him during this stage, and you will soon be back to chipping away at his health bar.
In his final stage, Ghorn will use every trick he has been using to get you but will have a horde of minions to get in the way now. Continue dodging around and attacking when able, and just ignore the minions really. As with many boss fights, the minions are really only there to hinder you and serve as a way to heal yourself if using a weapon that has heal.
As with every Darksiders II boss this fight will end in a button mashing action sequence when the boss nears ~10% of his health. Just wait for the first prompt, and mash away to bring him down. Enjoy your sweet looting.
